Italy’s Sofia Goggia earned an extraordinary 20th career World Cup win in St Moritz, taking gold just 24 hours after breaking her hand so badly that she required emergency surgery.
Goggia finished 2nd in Switzerland on Friday despite hitting a gate so hard she fractured her hand in two places and travelled by helicopter to Milan to go under the knife.
Less than 24 hours later, with a plate and nine screws in her left hand, the Italian lined up for the downhill in St Moritz once again with a pole taped to her damaged left hand.
When we saw each other at the finish, Sofia's eyes shone and we prayed together. My daughter and I prayed for her wrapped hand and in the midst of the World Cup hustle and bustle we felt great joy, peace and love.
May Christmas be for all of us a time of love, peace and joy in the midst of world’s hustle and bustle, looking to the one who took our pains, anxieties and sins out of love. His birth that we celebrate in the coming days was announced to the shepherds with the following well-known words from an angel:
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in clothes and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:10-12)
Jesus, who was found lying wrapped in a manger as a baby and was laid wrapped again in the grave after his crucifixion, conquered death and sin once and for all.
Jesus the reason for this season.
Merry Christmas ?
